The Otterhound is currently one of the most Vulnerable Native Breeds with only 7 Puppies registered in 2020, 42 in 2021.18 in 2023 and 11 so far this year. But wherever they go, whether on a walk, to a show or at Discover Dogs at Crufts they always receive great interest from the public and in particular families with children. This interest is well placed as they make excellent family pets but unlike the Basset Hound, Dachshund, Beagle or even the Rhodesian Ridgeback they have not made the seamless transition from hound to family dog with the same degree of success. The purpose of this website is to give those who are interested in knowing more about the breed as a member of the family an opportunity to hear about them from those of us that have an Otterhound as a pet and for us to tell you our Shaggy Dog Stories.
